Why Understanding Large Numbers Is Important

If one wishes to arrive at a high degree of certainty regarding the question of evolution, either for himself or in order to help others, it is vital to grasp the real meaning of the kind of numbers we are encountering.
It is easy to be careless in this regard. Many people see little difference between a billion and 10287, for example. They figure some rare possibility just might actually happen, whether the probability is one in a billion or one in 10287. After all, some men live to be 105 years of age. Ordinary people do win the Irish sweepstakes in spite of large odds against them.2 So they think that, even if it is improbable, maybe life could have started by chance.
The vital difference is in the size of numbers. Let’s look now more closely at a figure we obtained in the chapter just ended.

118 Evolution: Possible or Impossible?

The probability of one average protein molecule arranging itself by chance in correct order was first computed. Then we assumed that all the needed atoms available on earth were gathered in convenient sets. Each set was trying out 30 million billion new arrangements every second. If chance could be expected to produce one protein molecule that would function anywhere, it would be considered a success. The probability of this happening even once since the earth began was less than 1 in 10161. Let’s compare that figure with some large numbers we can more easily comprehend.

Examples of Large Numbers

Take the number of seconds in any considerable period. There are just 60 in a minute, but in an hour that increases to 3,600 seconds. In a year, there are 31,558,000, averaged to allow for leap year. Imagine what a tremendous number of seconds there must have been from the beginning of the universe until now (using 15 billion years, which is one of the standard estimates by evolutionists). It may be helpful to pause a moment and consider how great that number must be.
When written down, however, it appears to be a small figure: less than 1018 seconds in the entire history of the universe.
The weight of our entire Milky Way galaxy, including all the stars and planets and everything, is said to be “of the order of 3 x 1044 grams.”3 (A gram is about 1/450th of a pound.) Even the number of atoms in the universe is not impressive at first glance, until we get used to big numbers. It is 5 x 1078, based on present estimates of the radius at 15 billion light years and a mean density of 1/1030 grams per cubic centimeter.4
Suppose that each one of those atoms could expand until it was the size of the present universe so that each had 5 x 1078 atoms of its own. The total atoms in the resulting super-cosmos would be 2.5 x 10157.
By comparison, perhaps the figure for the odds against a single protein forming by chance in earth’s entire history, namely, 10161, is now a bit more impressive to consider.

How Large Numbers Can Help You 119
It is 4,000 times larger than the number of atoms in that super universe we just imagined.5

A Number Too Big to Imagine

Try as we may, that slender probability for the chance formation of a protein is a number too large to grasp. Let’s ponder it awhile. That big figure, 10161, represents the odds against one protein in five billion years. We can now calculate how long a period would be required in which we could expect one success on the average.
We should bear in mind that all of the constituent atoms on the surface of the earth – on land, in air, in seas – are considered as made up into sets of amino acids conveniently available for each point on every potentially forming protein chain. In each of these 1041 sets, experiments are going on constantly at the rate of 30 million billion per second.
By simple mathematics, we discover that, on the average, a single usable protein might hook up correctly once in 1017l years, rounded.

The Case of the Traveling Ameba

Imagine an ameba. This microscopic one-celled animal is something like a thin toy balloon about one-fourth full of water. To travel, it flows or oozes along very slowly.
This ameba is setting forth on a long journey, from one edge of the universe all the way across to the other side. Since the radius of the universe is now speculated by some astronomers to be 15 billion light years, we will use a diameter of double that distance.
Let’s assume that the ameba travels at the rate of one inch a year. A bridge of some sort – say a string – can be imagined on which the ameba can crawl. Translating the distance into inches, we see that this is approximately 1028 inches. At the rate of one inch per year, the tiny space traveler can make it across in 1028 years.
The ameba has a task: to carry one atom across, and come back for another. The object is to transport the mass of the entire universe across the entire diameter of the universe! Each round trip takes 2 x 1028 years. The ameba must naturally be presumed to be imperishable and tenacious!
To carry all the atoms of the universe across, one at a time,

120 Evolution: Possible or Impossible?
would require the time for one round trip multiplied by the number of atoms in the universe, 5 x 1078. Multiplying, we get 10107 years, rounded. That is the length of time for the ameba to carry the entire universe across, one atom at a time.
But wait. The number of years in which we could expect one protein by chance was much larger than that. It was 10171. If we divide that by the length of time it takes to move one universe by slow ameba, we arrive at this astounding conclusion: The ameba could haul 1064 UNIVERSES across the entire diameter of the known universe during the expected time it would take for one protein to form by chance, under those conditions so favorable to chance.
But imagine this. Suppose the ameba has moved only an inch in all the time that the universe has existed (according to the 15-billion-year estimate). If it continues at that rate to travel an inch every 15 billion years, the number of universes it could carry across those interminable miles is still beyond understanding, namely, more than 6 x 1053, while one protein is forming.6
Sooner or later our minds come to accept the idea that it’s not worth waiting for chance to make a protein. That is true if we consider the science of probability seriously. Missile scientists, like Wernher von Braun, use the same multiplication rule which is the basis of these calculations.7 It helps get our astronauts to the moon and back.

Why Some Probabilities Are So Small

Charles-Eugène Guye was one of the most brilliant thinkers of this century. This noted physics professor at Geneva called attention to the rapidity at which the number of outcomes can increase: “It is sufficient to recall that a hostess can arrange 20 diners round a table in more than two million million million ways. What would it be if it were necessary to place one thousand?”8
If you have 20 guests, the first one can be seated in any of the 20 places. While that one is in anyone of those 20 places, the next person can be seated in any of the remaining 19, and the same way, the next person in any of 18 seats not

How Large Numbers Can Help You 121
occupied. The total possible arrangements in such a situation comes to 20 x 19 x 18 x 17 x . . . x 1, called 20 factorial, and written in this interesting notation: 20! That is why, incidentally, we have not put exclamation points after some of the amazing figures we have computed. The exclamation point would change the meaning to factorial.
In the experiments mentioned so far, it has been assumed that all of the different amino acids were available at each point. The total of equally probable outcomes is gotten then by multiplying by itself the number of the available types, to the power of the length of the chain desired. When considering only L-amino acids, it was 20 x 20 x 20 x . . . x 20. The product number soon becomes astronomical.
Consider what a great change it makes when you barely increase an exponent of 10. If you start with 10101 and change it to 10102, you are, in effect, adding 10101 + 10101 + 10101 + 10101 + 10101 + 10101 + 10101 + 10101 + 10101 to the original 10101.

The Laws of Chance Are Dependable

Pierre Lecomte du Noüy, noted French scientist who escaped Nazi occupation in 1942 and came to the United States, wrote,

The so-called “laws of chance” borrow their accuracy (which is considerable on our scale of observation) from the fact that no privileged atoms exist (from the particular point of view considered) and that, on an average, they all behave in the same unpredictable, disorderly manner.9
In other words, we can expect things to average out according to those laws, and we are not to think anything is likely to behave contrary to the law of large numbers, if it depends on chance alone. Throughout science, engineering, and business, you find almost absolute dependence upon these laws. It is logical that the same principles which are used in planning skyscrapers can be trusted when we apply them to the probability of proteins forming by chance.
Calculations Can Be Scientific – a Repeatable Study

Remember that the essence of the scientific method is the repeatable experiment with the same outcome if the experiment is carried out in the same way, no matter who does it. Anyone can check on the reality of the multiplication rule and the

122 Evolution: Possible or Impossible?
mathematical formulas we have used. If doubts recur, one can go back and recheck until he is assured they are correct. The principles of probability are known and unhesitatingly trusted by engineers, astronauts, and all who use mathematics.
Certainty on this subject grows as one becomes convinced of the accuracy of the law of averages, and as he then considers the things that now exist. When one goes at this from the inductive scientific route, he can then by deduction see the logic of the Bible’s position in crediting creation rather than chance. But why should anyone want to improve on the Bible? It contains the truths man needs. Without it, modern man cannot find his way in this vast, mysterious cosmos.

Modern Atheism’s Substitute for God

In April, 1967, the international magazine, Réalités, printed an interview with French philosopher-scientist-theologian Claude Tresmontant, whom we have quoted earlier. The magazine, in its introduction to the interview, referred to Tresmontant’s book, The Problem of the Existence of God Today, using these phrases: “closely argued reasoning,” and “the almost overwhelming mass of learning with which it is weighted.”10 In the interview, Tresmontant, after stating that Plato, Aristotle, and others “thought that the world was a great living being, a Divine Animal,” said, “Modern atheism still maintains that the world is the only Being.” He then elaborated on what that would mean as to the nature of matter:

Since it is assumed that this matter is increate and eternal . . . it must have produced, from its own resources, everything that has appeared in the universe, both life and thought.
The total amorphous mass has been able to organize itself, to become animated and to endow itself with consciousness and thought. It is clear that if matter is to be looked at in this way it has to be credited with very great resources, great wisdom and positive genius, since great genius was needed for the independent invention of the large molecules which are part of the makeup of any living creature, however humble, as well as for the invention of the major functional systems that characterize higher forms of life – the digestive, circulatory, reproductive and nervous systems.11
With incisive reasoning, Dr. Tresmontant points out the implications of this substitution of the material universe for God.
How Large Numbers Can Help You 123
In the end, the same qualities would be required as those that describe the God of the Bible. He says, if matter has thus been able to accomplish such wonders, then:

I maintain that it must be gifted with great wisdom and incomparable genius. I would even say that matter must be credited with all the attributes that theologians specify as belonging to God: autonomous being, ontological seIf-sufficiency and creative genius.12
By this he shows that atheists cannot expect to escape the need for God – the same kind of God as described in the Bible – as the only rational explanation of the universe.
The general rule on the way things are is becoming clearer as we go on. Chance cannot create complex, orderly, operational systems. Neither can it account for beauty. To attribute to blind chance the perfume of a rose or the playfulness of a lamb is to ignore all logic.

Practical Impossibility

Speaking of large numbers, Lecomte du Noüy commented, “It is evident that exponents of over 100 lose all human significance. The nearest star is 40 x 1021 microns from us.”13 (A micron is one thousandth of a millimeter, which itself is about one twenty-fifth of an inch.)
Regarding probabilities involving numbers of large magnitude, the same author wrote:

If the probability of an event is infinitely slight, it is equivalent to the practical impossibility of its happening within certain time limits. The theoretical possibility . . . can be so small that it is equivalent to a quasi-certitude of the contrary.14
We have seen that an ameba could transport six hundred thousand trillion trillion trillion trillion universes, an atom at a time, across the diameter of the entire universe, travelling at the rate of an inch in fifteen billion years, during the time in which chance could be expected to arrange one average protein molecule.15 Perhaps the reader would agree that a probability so
124 Evolution: Possible or Impossible?
slight as this surely qualifies, in Lecomte du Noüy’s phrase, as a quasi-certitude of its practical impossibility.
The logic of these words of Scripture is now more easily evident: “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power, for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created” (Revelation 4:11).

One of the rules of our universe appears to be that systems become randomly and spontaneously more complicated. The universe, our solar system, the eco systems of earth and mankind. At least this is what materialists believe. There is no verifiable proof that systems can become more complicated without interference and manipulation from intelligence. Everything that is in place has always been complicated and by all intentions appears to have been designed. You cannot no matter how great your imagination is form a conclusion that leads from nothing becoming something. This is the reason that science stumbles over itself trying to explain the beginning.

God’s existence has already been proven and everything that materialists claim about our existence is false and here is why. Life itself is very similar to machines and computers. At the very base of life you have proteins that read DNA to start the building process of ever more complicated organisms. Evolution seems to have a very good explanation about the existence of life. You have variation, mutation, selection and adaptation that in itself becomes a dance of chance that has successfully led us to where we are at.

There is underlying problems with evolution as creation. Life unarguably has these following characteristics.

A will to survive- This will to survive is imperative to all of life and without this will life would not have had to survive. This will is no more than a self recognition of potential and a desire to fill that potential. A will to pass on genetic information so that a part of you can maintain a status of survival. Your genetic material has either survived or not survived but every life form desires it’s survival.

The capability to mutate- The way the genetics of life works it allows for the mutation of life. This mutation of life allows for variation and variation to such extremes that a step from one species to another is made possible.

Without either of these characteristics life could not have survived and reached it’s current level of success. However, the very visible problem with both of these characteristics is that they are exactly like programs. Many creatures are far too simple to have an intelligence that recognizes that it is alive and recognizes the potential for surviving. This is much like the computer sitting on my desk. The computer does not know it is a computer and has no concern over it’s continued state of existence. A programmer could write a program for the computer to make it communicate and act in a way that made it seem like it was concerned about it’s existence.

Also the ability to mutate very much fits into the realm of being a program. The ability for our genetics to have random mutations is very program like. It appears to involve parameters and it also appears to be mostly successful mutations. Combining genetics between different parents also gives this programming a greater pool of genetics to utilize. We know that our bodies and that animal bodies are very similar to machines and computers. Our brains are processors, our nervous system carries electrical signals, our cells carry out bios like processes and so much more. The more we learn about life the more comparisons are drawn between what we know about machines and programming and what we see happening in nature.

This is where the proof of God is becoming even more tangible and bold. If all we do is draw comparisons then one must ask this question. Since this programming obviously exists then who programmed it, who programmed life? Are you telling me that life became an accidental program? Then it would be a safe conclusion to say this computer sitting on my desk just happened to have existed.

If something looks designed then it must be designed. No one would say that four similar sized rocks became stacked on top of each other by accident. So why would they say that all the systems that combine to for our existence became accidentally more complicated over time. This is absurd.

If something is programmed to act and function a certain way and it is devoid of self awareness then it had to have a programmer. This is only logical and any other argument would be foolish. You cannot have something that is unintelligent behave in such a manner as to desire survival without an underlying bios type programming. When we speak of instict we are in fact talking about programming. Are not all instincts a type of programming?

When I sleep my brain defragments much like a computer and I am in REM sleep yet people believe my brain self programmed. Right…..

The Proofs of God
Posted in Atheism/Materialism, Bible-Factual, Bible-theoretical, Proving God, Uncategorized on June 20, 2010 by mattd77

Science has been looking for the proof of God since the beginning of science itself. Having an eye in a microscope or in a telescope may in fact reveal a finger print of God. The question is would the person understand what they are seeing as the proof of God or would it just go unnoticed. This the reason I talk about the Trinity of Understanding. You have to be able to see proof for what it is. You also have to be able to compare micro proofs to a macro level and vice versa. You must also be able to compare proofs to each other and under their own category. The Trinity of Understanding is this.

Knowledge of self- Older than science itself is philosophy. The basics of philosophy is that a man can understand his situation by thinking, by knowledge, by the internal ability to reason. I would go so far as to say that every person has fundamental truths residing in their soul. I believe the soul is distinct from the body but both the body and the soul need each other. The soul is a spiritual reflection of the body and it resides in an existence that is more like God’s. The body is a physical reflection of the soul and is bound by the laws of creation the laws of physics and nature. The soul being bound to the body is also keept in this physical world but the soul longs for its eternal body that it once had in Eden. Our souls have knowledge that our brains have a hard time comprehending and it is this knowledge that when properly discovered by the brain gives us philosophy and logic. Knowing our selves to the deepest core can lead to a discovery of knowledge of which only the surface has been scratched.

Knowledge of the world- Science has been given a position of prominence in today’s generation. Although I personally sound like I dislike science that is not the case. I love science and discovery. However, I dislike that science has become a false Idol. It is portrayed as something it is not given nearly omniscient and omnipotent characteristics and interpreted to become a God that is comfortable for everyone. Worshiping a false Idol is simply worshiping a God that fits your desires and that is what science is. This is especially disturbing when someone as logical and understands that science has almost no knowledge and no discovery when compared to what knowledge and discovery is still unknown. Science is trying to play a game of cosmic chess and the only piece they have is one pawn. I wouldn’t bet on science to win. Discovering the world and knowledge learned by men is the second part of the Trinity this can and will only lead to Gods existence. Science cannot contradict God because either one or the other is false. Complete and factual science will only solidify God’s existence. I would go so far as to say that any science that does not solidify God’s existence is incomplete or not factual.

Knowledge of the Bible- The Bible is very vulnerable considering it’s claims. However this vulnerability has never weakened nor undermined the Bible. When you look at everything in the Bible logically or test its claims we see that it is as strong as stone. For all it’s vulnerability it still is too much for the greatest materialist thinkers to completely undermine. The Bible is what God would like to communicate to each of us. So the Bible is the best and final piece of understanding.

None of the above knowledge’s can contradict each other and they do not contradict each other not when viewed logically and in context. When you have a good understanding of these and most importantly a personal relationship with God then God becomes a reality not a wish. Many people say if God exists why is he so hard to find. As I have talked about before God took a cosmic step out of our lives. God gave us free will. The first test of our will was to find out if it was our nature as a species to follow his wisdom or to defy him. Unfortunately all of humanity was tested by the actions of one man and one woman and I assure you all of us would have made the same choice. God made a decision at that time to separate himself from mankind and let mankind learn on an individual level what it means to defy God who loves them and is wise. The only other option for God was to destroy humanity but he loved us too much to do that. So our existence went from God having a relationship with humanity to God having a relationship with individual people. On an individual level we could choose God or choose self gratification. To make sure we had complete freewill God stepped back from our existence not completely but enough.

This is like a father that lets his young children camp in the back yard. The children feel as if they are doing something fun without their parents supervision and the father can check on them periodically by looking out the window but in all reality he is not that far away. If the father was to go and sleep outside with them then that feeling of doing something independent and by themselves would not be there. This is not exactly the same but you should get the idea. All of this for a simple choice?

Here are the proofs of God as I know them:

Proofs by science:

The complicated Machine Proof- Our universe is a complicated machine that only appears to have order and very little chaos. Our Solar system appears to be a smaller machine that only has order and is literally the best possible machine to provide life on earth. Our world is a smaller machine within our solar system that appears to be a nearly perfect bio dome for life. Life is a smaller grouping of machines within the world that are very complicated. Proteins are smaller machines within life that read blue prints (DNA) and assemble machines to make life possible. Each machine interdepends on each other. A complicated machine and especially a complicated series of machines must have an engineer. The engineer is God. God Exists. There are many books on this subject.

The Mathematical Proof -The mathematical possibility of the world having come into existence is unimaginable and all but a mathematical impossibility. If you took a million quarters to vegas you would be far more likely to win on every single quarter played in every slot machine in Vegas on the first pull then an accidental existence having actually happened. That would never happen so why people think the world is mathematically possibility is confounding. Since existence is logically mathematically impossible then it must have been designed. If it was designed then it had a designer. Only God can design existence. God exists. The hypocritical part of this argument is that if a person did take a million quarters to vegas and did win on the first pull of every slot machine in Vegas they would immediately praise God and give God credit. The world would be astonished at this and people would have no explanation other than a supernatural one. Yet people believe in an accidental existence which is many times more unlikely.

The proof of beginning- Science agrees our existence had a beginning. Science cannot give a logical rational answer to how existence began. Since a beginning must have a beginner then by logic we must assume a beginner exists. Since our existence has order then we must assume the beginner was intelligent. Using Ocrams Razor we must assume a single God was the beginner of our existence.

The argument of natural superscedence- Science has never discovered something new. Science can only discover what already exists. In other words science cannot create. Much as doctors do not heal the body they instead trick the body into healing itself science does not discover something new it only manipulates what already exists. This means that nature always supersedes science. If science cannot supersede nature then it cannot form the first or last conclusion of natural existence. This means science cannot tell us a beginning or an ending, science can only tell us what the cosmos already knows. If God tells us a beginning and an ending the God supersedes science, if God created nature then God supersedes nature. It would be illogical to form any conclusion from science alone, because science is purely reactionary to what has already happened.

The +1 answer argument- Every question that is answered by science creates a chain of more or multiples of more questions. Since science is currently creating more questions than answers then you cannot assume science has any correct answers because future answers may undermine current answers. You can only safely assume science is correct when science has one more answer than it has questions. The number of questions may be infinite so science may never have one more answer than it has questions. So science can never be trusted to answer any significant question because answers to questions not yet known may undermine answers already given.

Proof by Self:

The First Mover Proof- Everything is in motion, to have a chain of motion you must first have a in initiator of motion. The initiator cannot have been in motion otherwise the initiator is a link in the chain and not an initiator. The initiator must have been unmovable. All great minds agree that our existence had a beginning. The beginning of our existence must have had a beginner. If the beginner had a beginning he would not be the beginning of existence only a chain in existence. The beginner must have a reasonable and logical explanation (Not a Big Bang). The beginner was a creator this creator is God. This can be used as a proof of science also. There are many books on this.

Proof of self- I am an individual, no one else is like me because I am I. Because I realize that I am different than everyone else it means I am different than everyone else. I am more than human, more than a man. Nothing else in my known existence has knowledge of the self. Only humanity is unique to have knowledge of self. So humanity is different than all other existence. If I am different than existence then somehow I am outside of existence. Only God can make something outside of known existence so I was made by God.

Proof as Ruler- Mankind is the unarguable ruler of this world. A ruler must have the authority to rule. The authority to rule this world did not come from the subjects. So the authority must have come from a higher authority. That authority is God.

Personal Relationship Proof- I have a personal relationship with God. God has interacted in my life and communicated with me. If I say this then one of two things must be true. I am insane and communicate with an imaginary being or I actually do have a relationship with God. I am rational, logical and reasonable but I am not insane. So God exists.

Argument of beauty- Beauty exists and is related to self. Beauty is arbitrary and unnecessary in a materialistic world. A sunset is a sunset that has purpose and not a meaning. By giving meaning to things that have purpose then we are adding depth and characteristics where depth and characteristics do not actually exist. We are in essence creating something new. A sunset is different in our mind than a beautiful sunset. Something either exists or does not exist. By labeling something as beautiful you are changing the purpose of its existence. This is illogical and irrational. This means that existence superimposes logic and rationality. Nature itself cannot superimpose logic and rationality. This means that a supernatural exists. If a supernatural exists it must have explanation. The simplest explanation is God.

The Good VS Evil argument- I know right from wrong. Even a child has a basic understanding of right and wrong. Inside me something tells me when I am making a wrong decision. This right or wrong has no bearing on my cultural or materialstic success. For example a thief can be wealthy. A man can have multiple successful offspring by cheating on his wife. A woman can have a loving relationship with a murderer. A woman can have sexual relations with a successful man outside her marriage to produce a better genetic offspring. The natural world has no explanation for our ability to judge right and wrong, good and evil. Good and evil have no impact on the success of our natural existence. In fact some are even attracted to the success of what is evil. For example women attracted to bad boys or men taking advantage of the poor to increase their wealth and power. Since the natural world has no explanation for our ability to judge good and evil inherently then that ability must be supernatural. If it is supernatural then it must have been designed in us by something supernatural that judges good and evil. This is God. God exists. We even judge people as flawed or broken by the fact that they cannot easily judge what is Good and Evil.

Proof by Bible:

Proof by vulnerability- The Bible makes many vulnerable claims. These claims although testable have not been disproven. If you cannot disprove it then you must accept it as truth until disproven.

Proof by Association- Every event must have an eye witness. The Bible is the closest and best record of eye witnesses. We have never assumed a witness is lying we only judge if the witness adds validity or subtracts from it. These witnesses only add validity.

Argument by Reason and logic- The Bible is mostly logical and reasonable when taken in context. So if it is mostly logical and mostly reasonable then it must be assumed as mostly factual. If the Bible is mostly factual then God must exist. If the Bible is proven to be mostly fictional then God does not exist.

The argument of answers- The Bible is a book that claims many answers and many facts. Many of these answers and facts are true. The main answer the Bible imposes is that God exists so if most answers in the Bible are considered true then it is logical to say God exists.

There are many more proofs but I am out of time.

Unchangeable series of events
Posted in Bible-theoretical, Philosophy, Proving God, Uncategorized on June 13, 2010 by mattd77

As of a few seconds ago I was taking a nap as I sometimes do on Sunday afternoons. I usually do not dream anything of substance but I just had a dream that acted out as a philosophical argument. My brain was working through the argument so quickly that it woke me up and I was inspired to put it down in notes before I forget it. This is the easiest form of note taking for me so here it is.

If you are not a student of philosophy or familiar with apologetics then this may be hard to follow. I believe that it is technically sound even though it just came to me and I have not had time to properly work it through.

I will use chimpanzees as examples in this argument because they are considered the closest genetically and in intelligence to human beings. Life for a chimpanzee consist of an unchangeable series of events. What this means is that a Chimpanzee is not able to change it’s situation unless it changes it’s location. A chimpanzee is at the mercy of what is around it including it’s food source, water source and shelter. If the Chimpanzee has a thriving food source, a wealth of water and good shelter then it will in turn thrive. If any of these three is lacking then the Chimpanzee will no longer be living at it’s greatest potential. If a food source is lacking a chimpanzee can adapt like it has with using tools. Chimps are known to use sticks to gather ants and eat them. This is an example of maximizing what is already there but it is not an example of changing their environment.

Chimpanzees cannot and do not change their environment they can only maximize what is available to them. They also cannot conceptualize investment or reason. They are in effect a slave of events. In other words they are creatures living in a series of unchangeable events. They cannot change the weather, they cannot change their food source or water source and they cannot change their shelter. If a tree is available as shelter then a tree is their shelter. They can and do manipulate trees to maximize the comfort of the shelter but they do not change the tree to provide a completely different type of shelter.

Evolution as creation is one giant argument of what came first the chicken or the egg. Modern materialists would convince you that life began because it was the perfect environment for which life could begin in particular it was the availability of chemicals and sunlight that created a substantial food source for autotrophs. So in essence they say life began because of the availability of a food source. It is agreed that without a food source life would not have begun.

Now think about this for a moment. This is an argument that literally could be used to say that modern automotive vehicles exist because crude oil exists. If someone argued that a car existed not because of an engineer but because it had the perfect environment and a source of fuel they would be laughed out of the building. If you understand biology then you understand that life is made up of very complicated biological machines. A lion is a very complicated biological machine packaged with it’s own intelligent programming but on all levels it is just a programmed machine.

Now the dream I had about an unchangeable series of events amounts to this argument. A machine no matter how well it is programmed can only be a slave of the events around it. A chimpanzee is a highly programmed intelligent machine but it cannot change the events that surround it’s existence. If it has food it lives if it does not have food it dies. If a food source exists no matter how difficult, it is reasonable that a Chimpanzee will find a way to retrieve that food.

Human beings on the other hand are much more unique and my argument is that humans are not programs but operators or programmers in a sense. Humans have the unique ability to self program.

You probably drive a car so it is reasonable for me to say you have a car parked nearby. Think about your car and what it is capable of doing. You can go outside and start your car and leave it running and it will stay running until it either breaks or runs out of fuel but it will not do anything else. This car by itself has no potential it is a slave to a series of unchangeable events. It will pump fuel, detonate that fuel and exhaust the burnt fuel in an endless cycle as long as it has a fuel source.

Now if you get into the vehicle all of a sudden it’s potential is nearly limitless within the laws of physics and nature. The reason this changes so much is because you are an operator or in other words you are a self programming program.

Nothing else in nature is a self programming program or a changer of events. A chimpanzee may be taught tricks or a few human characteristics but it cannot learn these tricks on it’s own. Here is an example.

Put a human and a chimpanzee in two different rooms that have no contact with the outside world. The only things in this room are two buttons. Each button has its own rule. The first button after two hours and every two hours after that if pressed will open a small door that one cup of food and one cup of water are pushed into the room. The second button after six hours will open the same door and twelve cups of food and water will be pushed into the room. The trick is that anytime a button is pressed and the door opens it resets the timer for both buttons.

Now what do you think will happen? I can tell you without doing the experiment that the Chimpanzee will never realize that the six hour button works. Since only those two buttons exist in that room it will push them until the two hour button gives it food. After doing this several times the Chimpanzee will have taught itself only to use the two hour button. This is not self programming but simple discovery.

We also do not need to do this experiment to know that the human will eventually figure out the six hour button. You could argue that the intelligence difference is the only reason this will happen. I argue that it is not intelligence it is that the human operates as a self programming program not as a programmed program. Chimpanzees are highly intelligent but they cannot understand the concepts of self, investment and reason. A chimp only knows hunger, thirst, shelter and procreation, If these are satisfied then it is satisfied because it is living within its programming.

Human beings on the other hand are operators that are aware of self, investment and reason. The human sees a button and knows that if a button exists then it must do something because the existence of a button without some form of purpose is not reasonable. Even if the only reason the button exists is to trick the human then he will eventually conclude that after he has exhausted all options and experiments with the button. He is not driven by food, water, shelter and procreation alone. He is not designed to maximize his environment instead he is designed to understand and operate his environment.

Chimpanzees do not commit suicide intentionally. They may become apathetic from trauma and die of starvation but this is a cause of damaged programming not in anyway like the humans desire to escape. Humans commit suicide thoughtfully, willingly and in some cases without reason. Even when food, water, shelter and procreation which are the driving forces of life mankind can still be unsatisfied. Only an operator or a self programming program can make a decision to willingly end its operation.

Now there are cases where animals commit suicide like lemmings but if you study this you will see it is a programmed action. Nothing programs a human to commit suicide the human makes this decision and it is very common decision amongst humanity. To feel lonely, to feel absent of purpose to desire escape is distinctly human. I feel hunger so I eat, I feel thirst so I drink, I feel lonely for something greater?

All humans feel lonely for something greater. This is why we race for wealth, race for possessions and jump into and out of relationships; constantly seeking but in some cases never finding satisfaction. In fact this is how science explains human self awareness and desire for religion but that is ridiculous on every level. This is like saying we created the feeling of hunger after discovering food. Hunger existed before food just as thirst existed before water. In other words if a baby is born it will thirst and even though it may never get water or milk it will still thirst until it dies. This is because thirst is a need for water not a desire for water. Loneliness is a need for God not a desire for God. We do not feel lonely for something greater because we created the possibility of God. We feel lonely for something greater because we need something greater because just as food and water is part of our sustenance so is God.

If you take all of humanity that ever lived and asked each individual if they believed and longed for something greater than life then you will have a vote of 99.9999999999999% of humanity voting in favor of something greater. About the same amount that will admit they thirst and hunger.

Everything around us is a slave of an unchangeable series of events except for humanity. We can believe that we are somehow linked to the animal kingdom and see only our few similarities or instead we can focus on our huge gaping differences. If I looked exactly like a Chimpanzee I would still not be a Chimpanzee. Even if I shared 100% of the same genetic composition I would still not be a Chimpanzee. They are programmed machines that can only exist and act within their programming whether damaged or undamaged. I share 100% of the same genetic composition of all humans but I am uniquely different than any other human being that ever lived. I am I. No one else can be I. Your I is very much different than my I. When I look in a calm pool of water I see the reflection of I. In my heart I am lonely for the need for the creator of I, I am. For I am, made I to operate this world but my ultimate goal is I am for I realize that I have purpose.

I am a changer of events an investor a reasoner. I plant seed to farm, I build buildings from trees, I manipulate everything around me to better suit it for me. I operate nature much as I operate a car. I am human a self programming program that is unique. I hunger so I eat, I thirst so I drink, I am lonely so I walk with God. Science can explain a few things but science cannot explain I. More than a manipulator or maximizer instead a changer and operator. If an engineer designs and builds a machine then it is logical to say that machine only serves it’s purpose if it has an operator. Much like a car left running outside has no purpose.

To think that one giant machine like our universe that houses many smaller machines that is life somehow accidentally produced an operator is illogical. Even a self programming program needs an initial programmer.
